What's Up Wednesday- October 30th

Dream Thievery, Icelandic Scientists' (plural) Quest for Baby Alligators & the Importance of Wearing Horns on your Head

WHAT I'M READING

THE DREAM THIEVES. There are many reasons why, after purchasing this book on the very day it came out, I didn't actually get to read it until now. However, given that none of these reasons are especially scintillating, I will refrain from detailing them here. And also, might I just say, I really, really liked this sequel. It's pretty hard to top that first installment in the story, but still, here's a title that lives up to the hype.

WHAT I'M WRITING

I've been working on my outline and plot points for my NaNoWriMo undertaking. I'm not doing Nano full-out this year for a variety of reasons, but I'm going to use the time and the Nano energy to write some words on my latest MS. I am still really liking this one, which for me is unusual and a Very Good Sign.

WHAT ELSE I'VE BEEN UP TO

I find it immensely funny that I was worried about not be busy enough after I quit my day job. IMMENSELY FUNNY. The phone has not stopped ringing. I've been swamped, with new customers, returning customers and 10 scientists from Iceland... (Yes, they wanted to impress upon me that Iceland is large enough to have more than 10 scientists).. who wanted to see alligators hatching. So off I trundle to find said Icelandic scientists (plural) an active gator nest.

This is my life now. I'm loving it. I just wish I had a couple of minutes to sit back and enjoy it. But really I can't complain, because it's far better to be too busy, that sitting around waiting for the phone to ring.

Also, our epic Halloween Bash (Cirque du Mort) was a ton of fun this year. And despite predictions to the contrary, I did not burn the house down with my homemade pyrotechnics, nor did anyone call the cops. So we got to revel until 4am (which I am getting far too old to do...but did it anyway). And our little music set was well received. I now have random people pestering me about when our album is coming out. Because you know I have sooooo much extra time to record an album right now. *face palm*

Oh, and that's the top part of my Halloween costume. Because it's important to have feathers and horns on your head. (No animals were harmed in the making of said Halloween costume. Humans are another matter entirely. Though some of them were decidedly asking for it.)

WHAT INSPIRES ME RIGHT NOW

There is so much good news happening to some of my favorite writers in the world right now!!! (As in, there is not enough confetti and champagne in the world to celebrate all the good news!) And some of this good news is happening to people who hitherto had very discouraging years. Then all of the sudden, the clouds break and good things are raining down all over the place. It is truly inspiring! It also reminds me that I need to get my butt in gear. Good things happen to people who FINISH their damn manuscripts already.

    1. Thanks! I go a little crazy around Halloween. But at least this time, thanks to no day job, I had a little more time to go crazy. :)

  2. You sound crazy busy, but happy. Your costume is WOW! I'm about as original as throwing a blanket around my shoulders for a cape and calling myself Batman. Hmm...now there's an idea.

Good luck with the start of NaNo!

  3. Creepy and epic pic from the Halloween Ball. Love!

I too loved THE DREAM THIEVES. I adore Maggie Stiefvater's writing. I love her Raven Boys. I think the sequel was better than the first.

  6. Whoa - you are busy! Happy-busy is the best kind though, right? Sounds like Cirque du Mort did not disappoint - well done!

And it is so great to celebrate the joys of writerly friends, isn't it? It's a good reminder to never, ever, ever give up... and to finish the damn manuscript. :)

Hope you have a wonderful week, m'dear!

    1. Yeah, I should write "Finish the Damn Book Already" on a sign and hang it above my computer. :)

And yes, for some reason, good things happening to my writer friends makes me even happier than good things happening in my own life. Possibly because I love them and I want the rest of the world to get a chance to love them too.

    1. Thanks! And yeah, on twitter it's so tiny that everyone was DMing me to say "What are you?" Which is tough, because really I have no idea. ;)

  10. Love, love, LOVE your costume (okay, headdress)!!! It's all kinds of amazing and I want to see what the rest looked like! Plus, I'm glad that you were able to revel into the wee hours of the morning without any incidents. Gotta love that!

Get our your Sigur Ros playlist for the Icelandic visitors and be prepared for lots of fascinating people!

The book will be finished when it's ready. When you're ready, and not a moment before. And then it'll all start happening...............

    Happy Halloween!

I'm new to What's Up Wednesday, by the way. Nice to meet you. :)
