Springtime along the River & How to sunburn your eyeballs in three easy steps
WHAT I'M READING
I finished Game of Thrones. It holds pretty closely to the T.V. show, which I am usually very grateful for in a book, but here I was hoping for a little more information. i.e. Backstory, whatever. Alas, no. Now I'm on the hunt of a new read. Started 2 or 3 but they just didn't grab me.

WHAT WORKS FOR ME
This is a rather obvious one, but not waiting too long between writing sessions. I find that if too much time has passed, I spend the bulk of my writing time, re-reading my MS to try and figure out where I left off and what I should be writing next. (Which is okay, but not particularly productive.) I need to squeeze more short writing sessions in to just stay current. Tricky when I'm this busy, but that's my goal. Even if I just have 30 mins, I am going to make those 30 mins count.
◆ Kayaking, kayaking and mawr kayaking. We are coming up on Spring Break and it's our busiest season. Last year I had two other employees to help me out, but alas life happens and one moved and the other got a great new job. So now, I'm tackling all the trips myself. On the plus side, new muscles. On the down side, I am so sore this morning. And I sunburned my eyeballs yesterday. Soooo happy to have a morning off. Don't get me wrong though, I might kevetch about the work, but once I'm out on the water I feel alive and the beauty and wonder seeps into my soul in a way that feels like coming home.
◆ Finishing up the remodeling on the Guest House. I am on the home stretch and it is looking so pretty. I am going to be so happy to have it done and I can't wait to show you guys some before and after pictures. It's gone from brown, drab mancave with hideous carpet to holy crap I might just live here instead. *grin* Though whose bright ideas was it to do all the tile and wood floors myself?!!! Oh right, mine. *headslap*

Ouch! Your poor eyeballs.
ReplyDeleteYay for new words! That's exciting. Hope you can make the most of those 30 minute stints.
I am so envious of your day job. Even with the sunburns and sore muscles, it must be amazing to spend all day out on the water. Your pictures are always lovely. Congrats on your new words, and have a great week, Kris!
ReplyDeleteI'm not the only one?? I liked GoT but didn't love. I tried book 2 but couldn't get into it. I haven't seen the TV show. I feel like the only one who is not into the books. Gah! Yay for new words and good luck!!! Have a great week, Kris!
ReplyDeleteIs it weird that I am totally jealous of your sunburned eyeballs? Oh to have sun that shone in my eyes...
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the words! :) I find I forget everything I wrote when I leave my WIP for too long, as well. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteGood job on all those words, Kris! :D I 100% agree with you on not taking long breaks between writing sessions. It's ~so~ much harder for me to get back into it if I take long breaks. I reread what I previously wrote as well, which can be a major time suck if I'm not careful. I am an endless fiddler, unfortunately. Hope the words continue to flow and that you find a book that totally sucks you in! :D
ReplyDeleteYay words! Some days I only have 15-20 minutes to write and I only get half a page in, but I feel mighty accomplished :)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see Guest House pics! The "before" description sounds like an apartment I once lived in. Not a pretty place.
Hope your eyeballs are feeling better - have a great week!
You have such a wonderful job! I'm sorry about your sore muscles and burned eyeballs, though. Hang in there - and keep up those writing sessions. You're right, you gotta stay on top of it even if you're busy (I say as it's 9:24 pm and I haven't written yet today because it's been one thing after another after another but hey, I gotta make the blog rounds).
ReplyDeleteSee, you've inspired me. I'll come back to this tomorrow and go write a couple hundred words. :)
I want to be out there next to you in a kayak. Right. Now! That looks so amazing!
ReplyDeleteI am so with you on the difficulty catching up after you've been away from writing too long. At least 30 minutes a day sounds like a perfect plan during your busy season.
Can't wait to see the before and after guest house photos!
You sunburned your EYEBALLS? I'm so sorry :( (My scalp and the insides of my ears are probably the worst places I've had sunburns, fortunately.)
ReplyDeleteGood luck getting caught back up into the swing of writing!
