Weekly Dose of Wonder- You Are Here- The Mountain

Amazing timelapse footage filmed on El Teide, one of Spain's highest mountains. Captures the majesty of the mountain and the gorgeous milkyway that is always spinning above us (even if we can't see it).

I have been here for a little more than 30 years.
The stone in my palm has been here for about 200 million years.
The Earth has been here for about 4 1/2 billion years.
The light from the closest star to us, has been traveling for about 8.3 minutes. The light from the next closest star has been traveling for about 4.3 years. Some of the light from the stars I am now looking at has been traveling for billions of years. By the time I see them, they have already flared to overwhelming brilliance and collapsed in silent, fiery destruction.
The little hummingbird egg in the nest, balanced on the branch above me, is brand new.

  2. I loved this. Wow, it sure puts things into perspective, doesn't it? Having a bad day? No worries...you're only a speck of dust in the big scheme of things, and that bad day will be long forgotten a million years from now.

Wonderful. I look forward to your weekly doses, Kris! :-)

    1. Thanks Heidi, I'm glad that it makes your day a little better. Hope you aren't having a bad day at all though. I hope you're having a marvelous day! Full of beauty and wonder.

And just because you said that last part, I'm going to keep doing these for a while longer. Helps to know that someone out there is actually seeing/reading them. :)
