The !!!!!!!!!!! Edition, Muppet Flail, Much Rejoicing!!!!!
WHAT I'M READING
I'm re-reading THE BROTHER'S KARAMASOV (again, I know...don't ask), I'm also knee deep DRAGONFLY IN AMBER. Because you know, with everything else going on, it's important to read two gigantic tomes at once.
WHAT I'M WRITING
I got a wild hair and wrote about 4K on my new-ish MS. I am supposed to be saving it for NanoWriMo, so someone please tell my insomnia-riddled brain to cooperate with that plan already!
WHAT ELSE I'VE BEEN UP TO
This brings us to the !!!!!!!!!!!!! part. Ready for this......
I gave my notice this week. Which means for all intents and purposes I have now.....
QUIT MY DAY JOB!!!!!!!!!
*muppet flails* *runs in circles screaming* *falls over*
WHAT INSPIRES ME RIGHT NOW
3 Words: No. More. Cubicle.
Yay to no more cubicles! Here's wishing you all the best for the future. And congrats to the 4K - think of it as being REALLY prepared for NaNo. ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks! I did a little "no more cubicle happy dance" as soon as I hit send on that email! And I like your outlook on the Nano thing. Much better than me just being ridiculously impatient. :)
DeleteMy surviving uncle bought me The Brother Karamazov for Chanukah or my birthday some years back, after I specifically asked for it, but I guess I was too busy with school and I never got around to reading it. It's still in one of my boxes of books somewhere, and I really do need to finally read it one of these days. It looks bad for me to never have read Dostoyevskiy when I'm such an expert on Russian literature, culture, and history otherwise.
ReplyDeleteYou should read it. I've read it more times than I can count and it is very good. Best to read it when it's not dark and cold outside though. :)
DeleteI can imagine how quitting your job feels amazing. Working an office job is such an imagination sapper- at least that's how it was for me.
ReplyDeleteI can't agree with you more. I feel like this giant weight has been lifted off me. Now I'm free to let my imagination run amok. :)
DeleteCONGRATS ON QUITTING YOUR JOB!!! (Sorry for the caps, but the situation merited it.) I know how excited you've been about this day when it was only on the horizon. So this is worth celebrating! Good for you for pounding out 4K this week. That's pretty great, even if it was because of insomnia. Have a great week, Kris! And congrats again! :-)
ReplyDeleteYou know me, you NEVER have to apologize for capitalizing things! I am the queen of random capitalization. And thanks, it is a huge relief to have finally taken the big leap. Now I can focus on all the fun stuff. (and hopefully get a little more sleep) :)
DeleteI had a !!!! moment when I quit my day job in July and I LOVE not being REQUIRED to be somewhere and just be able to focus on family and writing. Good for you!!!! I'm flailing muppet arms with you!
ReplyDeleteThanks!!! It's always nice to have someone to muppet flail with. :)
DeleteI can't wait to have some more time to write. I'm so excited to start this next chapter of my life, especially if it leads to more chapters.
Congrats on quiting the day job. When you write about your day job it always sounds very fun and not all that cubicly (doing field biology, etc). But for my day job I'm an environmental engineer and know that the actual work is never as fun/interesting as they way it's described at a cocktail party. So good luck with what ever comes next in the adventure you call life.
ReplyDeleteOkay, to be fair the field stuff was a ton of fun. But oy, the meetings and the red tape and the cubicle dwelling...not so much.
DeleteThanks so much for your well wishes and I do plan to make it one hell of an adventure. ;)
HOOOOOORAAAAAAY FOR FREEDOM FROM THE CUBICLE! Party at Kris'!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHahaha!! Thanks! And yes, there's a HUGE party at my house and you are TOTALLY invited. :)
DeleteOh wow! lots of exciting new changes coming your way then. I hope it all goes well for you and that you achieve all your dreams :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! And yeah, I think I should just have the one goal from now on.
DeleteGoal #1: Achieve Dreams
(piece of cake, right?) :)
I read THE BROTHERS KARAMAZOV about 13 or so years ago. It was about the time I decided I needed to get back into reading novels, and put "Classics" on my Christmas list. One of my wife's aunts bought it for me, and I read it soon after. I can't say I remember much about it now, but I do remember marveling at how much better it was than I thought it would be. The depth of the characters particularly struck me. I should re-read it sometime.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on quitting your job, Kris! I'm sure it was both scary and exciting--and still is. May the next week, and the coming weeks, months, and years prove that you made the right decision. :)
Thanks Colin! And yes, it was a tad scary, but now I'm just ready to make it work.
DeleteI have a few books on my shelf that I seem to read over and over. For some reason The Brothers K is one of those. Every time I get busted picking it up again, I have to say "It's not what it looks like". ;)
YAY, YAY, YAY, YAY!! One YAY for each wall of the cubicle....although, there are probably only two walls. Or three. ( How would you get out? Maybe there's a door.) Anyway.....YAY for all the walls and/or doors that will be disappearing....and YAY to all the new places you'll find yourself on a day to day basis.
ReplyDeleteCheers to new adventures and all of the great things that will most certainly go along with it! You deserve all the greatness!
THANK YOU!!!!! :)
DeleteAnd just because it sounds like you are curious about this and it will plague you. The answer is 4 walls, one with a door...that I installed myself...with zip ties. (because not having a door greatly increased both the daily annoyance and general influx of idiots into my cubicle)
And I am so SO excited to start this new chapter of my life! I can't even tell you. I know you're not a "squee" person either, but I think I made a noise when I turned in my notice that only dolphins can hear. :)
Some days I would totally kill for a cubicle, but I'm glad you're getting out of yours. Stretch those legs, woman!
ReplyDeleteYay for quitting your day job! What an exhilarating feeling! Congratulations! Also, that sunset image is absolutely stunning. Hope you have a wonderful, cubicle-free week, Kris!
ReplyDeleteYay! Congratulations! I'm so happy for you! It's all kinds of inspiring that you're following your dream, and I hope it's more fulfilling than you ever could've imagined!
ReplyDeleteI love that you cheated and started your NaNoWriMo project early because you couldn't sleep. Must be a great story idea if you're that excited to work on it! Honestly, my insomnia-riddled brain is the only reason I ever get anything written at all. For whatever reason my most creative time is smack in the middle of the night.
Hope you're enjoying DRAGONFLY IN AMBER. It's been a while since I read any Diana Gabaldon and that makes me nostalgic! Have an awesome week! :)
Congratulations!! That's such a dream, so I'm glad you're at a place where you can quit. And another congrats is in order for banging out 4K!
ReplyDeleteNO MORE CUBICLE! *muppet flails with you*
ReplyDelete"Got a wild hair" is such a great phrase, I actually remember the first time I heard it (random, I know). I was taking a creative writing class at my local community college and someone used it in a short story title. A bunch of us were like, "Huh, what? What's that?" But once she explained, we were all, "oooh...cool!"
Congrats! Good luck with your writing. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteAs usual, I am blown away by your awesomeness! First, major congrats, confetti, over-the-top cheering and an imaginary banner that reads: NO MORE CUBICLE!!! Yay cubed, Kris. I'm sure you worked hard for this, and I am SO excited to see what you do with your post-cubicle life.
ReplyDeleteAlso, 4K?!?! Um. Wow. *happy dance* Apparently, your story didn't want to wait for NaNoWriMo. :)
P.S. You've moved on to DRAGONFLY IN AMBER, which means I am a terrible internet friend for not knowing your FEELS about OUTLANDER. *hangs head* I'm off to scour your past posts to see what I can learn. :)
*gets hit by a flail* Oww! ;)
ReplyDeleteUm, hi there, nice to meet you, good luck with the cubicle freedom plan! And yes, trying to 'save' your creative energy for Nanowrimo clearly isn't working, so look at this writing as Nano training.
By the way, I'm looking for bloggers to do Nanowrimo spotlight interviews this October and November, are you interested?
