What's Up Wednesday- Feb. 25th

Herding Cats & Time Travel

What's Up Wednesday is a weekly blog hop geared toward readers and writers, allowing us to touch base with blog friends and let them know what's up.  Should you wish to join, check out Jaime's or Erin's lovely blogs and sign up with the link widget at the bottom of the post.

WHAT I'M READING
I'm about 700 pages into Game of Thrones. The nice thing about long tomes is that they last a while. I like disappearing into another world for a while. Great way to relax. Miiight have to get this tshirt for Boy Chris though. (Hehehe)

WHAT I'M WRITING
I got very little writing done this week. We had house guests all week, so between entertaining them and all the cleaning required when one has house guests...well, let's just say not much writing happened. I resolve to do better this week.

WHAT WORKS FOR ME
Having a Time Machine. Because that is the only way I am going to get half the stuff done in a day that I want/need to get done in a day. Have you guys seen the movie About Time? (Lovely movie, you must if you have not) I need to use that time-travel secret. I need to live every day twice. Because truthfully, that is the only way I am going to make this work. Plus, I don't think one life is going to be enough for me. I look at how fast life is going, and it just keeps getting faster as you get older. I imagine at the end of it, I am going to be like a little kid at the end of a roller coaster ride..."I want to go again!"

WHAT ELSE I'VE BEEN UP TO

◆     Herding Cats. (a.k.a out of town visitors)
◆    Kayaking my arms off. We're coming up on Spring Break. Everyone and their dog wants to go kayaking. Which is good, but holy soreness Batman. I'm stronger than I used to be though. In the beginning I couldn't lift a kayak by myself onto to the top rung of the trailer, now I can lift a 95 pound boat over my head no problem. It reminds me that I can do more than I think I can if I continue to push myself. (*cough cough* finish this WIP maybe?)
◆   Trying NOT to buy a boat. Which is hard because I want a boat. I really shouldn't spend the money right now though, so I'm trying to be good.

What have you been up to? I'm going to be out on the ocean most of the day, so if I don't hop around to your blogs to post comments 'till tomorrow, please be patient with me. :)

  1. That's an amazing shirt. :P I tried reading A Game of Thrones but because I'd already watched the show by that point I find it a little... not 'pointless' because I know there are plenty of differences between the two, but frustrating. I think that's the word I'm looking for. I might try listening to the audiobook instead. :)

Haha I know how you feel! Every week I'm in awe of the other writers on WUW who've gotten so much more done than me. I think I just need to make sure I use my free time productively, but when I'm working 5 days a week there's nothing more that I want than for my free time to just be free! I need to make writing fun again. :)

    Have a great week!

  2. 95 pounds is impressive! I love kayaking, so I understand the tourists. Herding cats sounds adventurous. And if you figure out the time machine thing, PLEASE let me in on your secret...oh, and a couple more lives are definitely necessary. There's simply too many awesome things to get done in one.

  3. Good luck with not buying the boat ;)

Hahah I like to describe my day job as herding cats on mad days. I feel your pain ;)

    Have a great week!

  4. I could use a time machine, or a clone. :P Enjoy the kayaking and reading GoT! :)

  5. Ha! I actually have a Hodor tee with a little caricature of Hodor on it, including a mostly nude Hodor with only a leaf over his nethers. :P Some weeks are so darn hard for getting any writing done. Between all of the people and things demanding our time. That was last week for me too. A time machine would be FANTASTIC. As would living each day twice like in About Time. (I ♥ that movie so much.) Or having Hermione's time-turner. There really aren't enough hours in the day to accomplish what we'd like, is there? Hope things slow down a teensy bit for you. :-)

I should mention that I pretty much spent this past few weeks actually herding cats. I was kitty-sitting my parents 3 cats and then, of course, caring for my own 2 cats. Needless to say, it was a wee bit of a zoo around these parts. Heh.

Hope you have a wonderful week, Kris! And don't buy that boat! (That's what you wanted to hear, right? Right???) ;-)

  7. A 95-pound overhead lift is pretty impressive! Good luck with not buying your boat. I mean, *a* boat. And getting back to the writing. Who was it that said it's essential to protect your writing time, especially from those you love? So true.

  8. I love kayaking! I always mean to read Game of Thrones. I love the show. I'm just always wary of reading things I'm watching and vise versa. Love the shirt, though :)

Writing with houseguests is, like, impossible.

  9. Don't buy the boat, because you should really invest in the time machine instead. Kidding ;)

In all seriousness, I know exactly what you mean. Every year seems to fly by faster. I'm having trouble packing everything I need to do into a day too--literally since I'm actually packing for a move, ha! Love your roller coaster analogy btw, and also loved About Time. To me it always sounds like you're doing a pretty darn good job of cramming as much as possible into your days, so know that you're setting a great example for the rest of us slightly less adventurous souls.

Hope the writing goes better this week and that you make it through Spring Break with your arms in tact!

  10. About Time is on my DVR. My husband and I have a rule that nothing stays on there for more than a year so we've got about 11 months left to watch it :)

I have poor upper body strength. When I was a kid and still (unrealistically) dreaming of being an Olympic gymnast, I was like, "WOW, uneven bars are hard...can I just skip these?"

    Hodor!

  11. I fully support this time machine idea. Kickstarter?

  12. aw man, I would love a time machine. And having people in town can throw everything off, but you survived and that's what counts!

  13. I've used the phrase "herding cats" on multiple occasions to describe how certain classes I've had are, so I can imagine how your week with houseguests has been going :)

A time machine would be GREAT. Or Hermione's Time Turner. There isn't nearly enough time to do all of the things I want to do!
