What's Up Wednesday- Sept. 3rd- 'Back Up On That Horse' Edition

Playlists of Infinity & Lake Powell!!!

What's Up Wednesday is a weekly blog hop geared toward readers and writers, allowing us to touch base with blog friends and let them know what's up.  Should you wish to join, check out Jaime's or Erin's lovely blogs and sign up with the link widget at the bottom of the post.

WHAT I'M READING
I can't believe I had never read Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist. It was a very fun read and filled me with all sorts of nostalgia. All nighters, mosh pits...making out with boys. Being 17 sucked in many ways, but it was also tremendously glorious in other ways. It's been a long, long time since I broke into a hotel pool to go skinny dipping at 4am. *le sigh*

I should probably see the movie now.

WHAT I'M WRITING

My last week of gratuitous Slackitude was a success in that my batteries are now recharged and I'm ready to write All The Words. Small problem. I will be traveling again and this time I'm probably leaving my laptop behind. (hard choices are hard) But the likelihood said laptop would end up filled with sand or going "in the drink" are highly probable, so I will have to take a longer break than previously planned.

This is going to be hard because I finally figured out which idea I want to write for Nano this year. I have this really lightweight, fun idea that's been in the idea folder for a long time and I think now just might be the perfect time to bring it out. Here's the tag line:

"According to some people, God created the world in six days. Juneau Tate did it in forty-five minutes, during Algebra class. It was an accident."

*Gives Nano the sign for "bring it"*

WHAT ELSE I'VE BEEN UP TO/ WHAT INSPIRES ME RIGHT NOW

I'm hopping on a plane (again). I'm going to be away from the digital world for a couple weeks, so I won't be participating in What's Up Wednesday for a bit.

On the plus side, I'm going to be floating on a houseboat in the middle of the Grand Canyon with my entire Family Clan. On the down side, I'm going to be floating on a houseboat in the middle of the Grand Canyon with my entire Family Clan. (I miiiiight not have thought this one through) Don't get me wrong, I love, love, LOVE my huge, noisy, crazy, wonderful family in all their insane glory...but when the only escape from the madness would be swimming the 10 miles back to Bullfrog. Hmmmm.... Boy Chris wants my exact GPS coordinates in case he has to organize an evac via helicopter. (You think I'm joking)

But Lake Powell!!!! It is the epitome of childhood nostalgia for me. This trip was planned as sort of a tribute to my Dad, without whom, none of us would have ever explored Powell, loved Powell, dreamed of Powell throughout our entire adult lives. (I had this idea to build a sandstone cairn for him at our campsite on this trip and inside, everyone can put notes to him. He would have appreciated that.)

Powell is high red rock cliffs, glassy water, waterfalls, hanging gardens, evening bats, night swimming, blooming datura, cliff jumping, slot canyons, civet cats, sunburn, licorice, sleeping under the stars, playing cards 'till 3am, sand castles, laughing yourself silly... Powell is magical.
We always have to cliff dive off of Dead Man's Leap-
It's sort of a right of passage in my family & invariably blasts your swimsuit
right of your body when you hit the water

  4. you know i own Nick and Norah, but have yet to read it. I enjoyed the movie, but I'm sure the book is better, because it always is. Glad you've recharged and ready to write again! Breaks are nice and necessary!

  6. Lake Powell is so beautiful. I live 15 minutes from Lake Mead, but it's not nearly as beautiful. :(
