WHAT I'M READING

I finished my complete read-through of ISIS, including a complete out-loud read through to Boy Chris. I think this puppy is ready for the next stage. *crosses fingers*

WHAT I'M WRITING

Getting all my revisions in and polishing the latest draft of ISIS was one of my main goals for  Spring Writing Bootcamp , so yay! I now feel like I can focus more on LOVE AND OTHER CURIOSITIES and plotting out some fun stuff for our collaborative project SKINSWITCH.

Finding time to write and get revisions done has been pretty tricky lately to say the least. But I feel like I'm making some forward progress and that feels good.

WHAT ELSE I'VE BEEN UP TO

Everything. I've been doing All The Things. Surprisingly, I'm feeling pretty good though and my head it still above water.
  • I put in some serious kayaking time this week. (Even by my standards.) I've had a few days with back-to-back trips where I logged 11 or 12 hours straight. I better get some new muscles to go along with it, because the old ones are a liiiiitle sore right now. Highlight: There were Dolphins everywhere!! Leaping. Splashing. One of my customers shouted, "Oh my god, that was real!!" Hard to top that. :)
  • Got some of my photos back from the London photo shoot and they are gorgeous. So all those late nights busting hump to get my pieces done paid off. Some of my Etsy shop stuff is being featured in an amazing high fashion magazine. Who knew this crazy idea would take off like it has? (Not complaining over here.)
  • Outfitting the new greenhouse. (Yay!) Look what little ol' me built with a wrench. It turned out really well and I'm so happy with it. We plan to have a little table and chairs in there for a little chill zone and I'm going to hang up some twinkle lights or another handmade lighting project. *grin* We were able to score some upcycled pavers that our neighbors were discarding, so the whole project only cost me about $500. (Double yay!)

WHAT INSPIRES ME RIGHT NOW

Every once and a while, I need to remember to take a few moments for myself. Even if it is just a short stroll through the park after lunch. The top pic is a snap of a Fern Forest that I took on just such an adventure. I have a love affair with ferns right now. (But you probably guessed that) Even small moments in nature clear out my brain, remind me what's important and make me feel like all is right with the world.

    1. I think I'm just going to surround myself with ferns...turn my whole yard into a fern glen. I mean why not? ;)

  4. I love your greenhouse! And your twinkle lights/chill zone idea sounds wonderful. I would definitely escape there with some tea and a good book. Very impressed over here. :-) Congrats on getting to the next stage with your story. You're so brave reading it to Boy Chris. I'm way too chicken to read my story to my husband lol. I can definitely see how it's been tough squeezing in writing time with all of the awesome other things that you're doing. But that's life, right? I think it's great that you have this totally interesting, active, and really kind of fantastic life outside of writing. All of that probably helps inspire you, I suspect. Hope this week is wonderful all around, Kris! :-)

    1. I don't think it's bravery that makes me read my stuff out loud to Boy Chris, it's that he keeps begging for the next chapter until I do. This is particularly hard, when I haven't written the next chapter yet. *grin*

And I'm pretty impressed with your awesome life on an almost weekly basis. (In case you didn't already know that) ;)

  6. What a beautiful picture, I love your greenhouse! Everything is so bleak and dead around me right now. We go from freezing days to possible tornados in the span of 24 hours. What can I say? The midwest wants to kill everyone.

    Good luck with your revisions!

  8. Well, you are just having an awesome week! The greenhouse looks fantastic and I can just picture it with twinkle lights and such. I'll be over next week with some refreshments. :) Congrats on the Etsy success, too! You've got a lot going on! Have a wonderful week.

  9. I look forward to your pics every week :)

I once put together a shelf with a butter knife - that is my construction claim to fame. Thirteen years later and that sucker is still going strong!

Congrats on the Etsy stuff - what magazine is it? I want to check it out!

  10. I love that you read your entire ms to Boy Chris! That's awesome! My husband just reads my stuff on his e-reader, which suits me fine because I'd be mortified to read some of it out loud even to him lol.

That greenhouse you built is phenomenal, Kris! What an awesome spot for plants and hanging out. You're reminding me how badly we need to do some landscaping around here, and I'd love one of those in my yard.

Congrats on finishing your revisions and on getting your Etsy stuff into a magazine. Very cool on both. Best of luck on your Bootcamp goals and I sincerely hope you can squeeze in some more relaxing nature walks, because 12 hour stints in the kayak sound grueling!
