2013 Rewind- Top Books, Top Music & Blog Hop

It's here! The YA Buccaneer's 2013 Rewind. What's that you ask? Check out the Ship's Log for more info and hop around to the different Crew Member blogs to find all the best reads to add to your TBR pile!

2013 was a great year in reading. Not all of my picks launched in 2013, but they are some of my favorites that I read this year. These were the books that stuck with me. Books I would buy extra copies of to mail to family and friends. Here they are in no particular order.

THE DREAM THIEVES
CODE NAME VERITY
DAYS OF BLOOD AND STARLIGHT
TOMORROW WHEN THE WAR BEGAN
THE SKY IS EVERYWHERE
THE BOOK THIEF
THE NIGHT CIRCUS
EVERYBODY SEES THE ANTS
SWAMPLANDIA
NEVER LET ME GO

And where would we be without music?!! I put together a couple of playlists of some of the tracks I've been listening to a lot this year. (I used to be a late-night radio DJ, so it's almost impossible for me not to post absolutely every song I love.) I favor the stuff off the mainstream. Music with interesting production. Things you may not necessarily hear on the commercial radio station.

Again, not all music that was released this year, but some very good stuff. The first playlist contains some upbeat, lightweight tracks. The kind that makes me want to sing along in my car or dance around the living room.

This playlist has a few tracks of the more mellow variety. Though not any the less brilliant in their execution. Enjoy. :)

  1. Okay, TWO playlists!! DUH! Why didn't I think of that????? Genius! :-) (Yeah, except I'm now going to spend my whole day listening to playlists..... LOL Must remember to get some work done!)

I loved CODE NAME VERITY, but it took me some time to get through. It was recommended to me, so I stuck with it, but I found it tough. Rewarding in the end, though, when you get through a book and realize its greatness.

I only saw the movie version of NEVER LET ME GO, but I should go grab the book. They're always better, aren't they?

Thanks for all the fun tunes today. I'm feeling like I need a long car trip........

    Have a wonderful holiday! *HUGS*

  2. I know, I couldn't decide between slow and fast...so I just did both. (Because I have sooo much time to mess with playlists) *grin*

And yeah, CODE NAME VERITY takes a bit to get into, but it all comes together. And the book version of NEVER LET ME GO is even more haunting and more heart rending than the movie. (If that's possible)

And if you take that road trip, I'm totally there. We'll blast music and not drive off a cliff. :)

  3. MUSIC! Wheeeee! I love getting music recommendations from peeps I <3. It's so fun finding new stuff, even if it's not new to the world. So thanks for sharing!!! :)

I'm checking out your books, too. A few of the titles are new to me - so triple-yay for that.

    Happy holidays, Kris! :)

    1. I know, new music is fantabulous. And sometimes, I'm left going..."How is it that I've never heard this before?!" Had a ton of fun rockin' out with your playlist this morning too. :)

  4. I *loved* THE SKY IS EVERYWHERE. It's been a while since I read it so I'm due for a re-read. I haven't read THE NIGHT CIRCUS yet but I really want to in 2014 because I've heard great things! I also need to read DAYS OF BLOOD AND STARLIGHT since I loved the first book.

I'm going to have to rock out to your playlists later!
