WHAT I'M READING

I received an ARC of COUNTING TO D by Kate Scott (you're jealous, I know) which I'm reviewing for the YA Buccaneers. I'm really enjoying it thus far and can't wait to share my thoughts. And if you can't wait to get your paws on it too, YA Buccaneers is hosting an upcoming giveaway of COUNTING TO D.

    WHAT I'M WRITING

The Writer's Retreat (a.k.a Retreat of Awesome) starts TODAY!! *muppet flail of epic proportions* As I write this, I am waiting for planes to land and writers to descend on my little patch of the world.  The stooopid snow in other parts of the world is making this much more difficult that it should be to actually get on a plane, but the way I see it, those 70 degree temps are going to be even sweeter once they actually land. ;)

In preparation, I've been plotting out chapters all week that I hope to write during the Retreat. If I get to half of them it will be a minor miracle. Besides going yachting and kayaking and having beach parties though, I really do want to get some actual writing done. Perhaps I can reward myself with a glass of Sangria for every 5,000 words. I'm sure my book would get better and better. *grin*

WHAT ELSE I'VE BEEN UP TO

    • Prepping for the Writer's Retreat
    • Making elaborate designs from my Etsy shop for a fashion magazine photoshoot. (This was a whirlwind of fun)
    • Building a greenhouse (Didn't get very far)
    • Oh, and our owls are getting ready to nest again. Very excited to see if we get another owlet hanging out in our yard.

    WHAT INSPIRES ME RIGHT NOW

Other writers. Seriously. I know I've said this before, but this online community of writers is a HUGE inspiration. I have learned so much from you guys. I can't imagine doing this now without such a vast network of amazing people. If I ever get to the point where I write that acknowledgments page, it is going to be its own stand alone chapter. :)

    5. Can I be there in spirit? Because stupid flights are too expensive and also responsibilities here. But that really does sound awesome. Hope you all have a great time. ;)

      1. Yep. And if you'd like to chose a spirit animal to attend in your stead, I would like to suggest that it be a Florida panther. (Because I would like to meet one and I'm sure they're great writers) ;)

    8. Kris! Have so much fun at your retreat! I am infinitely envious of all the fun you guys are going to have. I hope you get tons of writing done, and I hope to be able to come next year. Speaking of envious, I can't believe you're already reading COUNTING TO D! I've had my eye on that book since I started following Kate's blog. Can't wait to hear what you think of it!

    10. I love that you have owls nesting in your yard! We used to take my son to the Young Naturalists club here and we went on two fieldtrips where we banded Great Horned Owls and Saw Whet Owls (the teeny cute ones). What an amazing experience, but to have them in your own backyard would be incredible.

Your retreat sounds like writer heaven. I hope all of you have a wonderful time and that you get lots of words down! :)

    11. I can imagine 70 degree temps will be a relief to many people. We could do with it being a bit warmer here. We've had our snow--it's time for Spring now. :)

Have a wonderful time with the retreat--and say hi to anyone who knows me! :D

    14. Here we are almost a week later.....and I hope your Writer's Retreat is going amazingly well!!!! (I savour each and every little photo you post. Hope you get some writing done!;-)

And I have to say, stuck in shoulder-height snow drifts since December, all of your sultry water/nature photos make me swoon. Keep them up. They give me hope.... :-)
